Desktop Engineering subscribers and website readers picked Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 3.0 from PTC as the 2006 Readers’ Choice Product of the Year, giving it the most votes out of a field of 11 other highly innovative products. In late March of this year, DE Publisher Brian Vaillancourt and I met with PTC’s VP of Product Management, MCAD, Mike Campbell, to present the award plaque. Nicole Rowe, director of corporate communications at PTC, coordinated our visit with the able assistance of Jessica Pozerski.

I have to tell you that I love doing this stuff. Don’t get me wrong: I love the intense learning sessions that are more typical of my meetings with companies. But nothing beats dropping in some joint to present an award for a job well done. It’s one of those feel-good moments when business as usual is put aside and everyone can just enjoy her or his accomplishments.
Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 3.0 is all about improving your accomplishments by enabling you to be more productive and efficient throughout the product development cycle. Functionality such as Fast Sketcher, Fast Sheet Metal, Fast Drawings, and Fast CAM, for example, speed and simplify your work. Maybe they accomplish that by requiring fewer clicks to get something done, or maybe it is their tighter, more aggressive algorithms. But whatever the feature or programming change, the point is that Pro/Engineer Wildfire 3.0 makes your work processes more efficient.

The Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 3.0 product announcement first appeared in the April 2006 issue of DE. Ironically, in light of PTC’s acquisition of Mathsoft in May, the write-up was positioned immediately after the Mathcad 2005 Readers’ Choice Product of Year announcement. It's choice as a DE Readers' Product of the Month appear in the July issue.
A special treat on my visit to PTC headquarters was that I also got to meet and congratulate PTC Arbortext team members Vi Kellersohn and Dave White and hand them a framed plaque. PTC Arbortext was our April 2007 issue Readers’ Choice Product of the Month winner.
