Saab и DaimlerChrysler выбирают программное обеспечение компании UGS

UGS, a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, and DaimlerChrysler AG have extended their collaboration through a new contract for NX Nastran, a leading computer aided engineering (CAE) software for engineering analysis. More than 100 simulation engineers at the central automotive and engine development sites in Sindelfingen and Untertürkheim, Germany are now using NX Nastran as their primary solution for digital simulation.

UGS made the announcement in conjunction with its analyst/media briefing event being held July 14-15 in New York. The briefing is the first such event UGS has held since announcing on May 27 the closing of its sale by EDS to three private equity firms and its launch of operations as an independent software company under the UGS brand.

In addition, DaimlerChrysler will be actively involved in the development of the NX Nastran software. This interactive relationship reflects UGS’ strategy of partnering with customers to provide open software solutions that deliver value based on heterogeneous customer environments. DaimlerChrysler expects similar improvements in speeding up innovation with NX Nastran as the company has experienced with existing installed software solutions from UGS.

The automobile manufacturer currently uses UGS’ Teamcenter® portfolio for enterprise process management, engineering data management and enterprise visualization, validation and analysis.

The move to NX Nastran is aimed to reach clear productivity progresses on a long-term basis and to meet the constantly rising requirements. NX Nastran is used to optimize new products at the computer and is an important basis for efficient development processes.

“In the second half of 2003 we did a thorough evaluation of NX Nastran and the support organization,” said Jürgen Kohler, Leiter Berechnung Fahrzeugfunktionen (Head of Automotive Function Computing) at DaimlerChrysler EP/CSB. “We found UGS’ vision for NX Nastran, as well as the company’s willingness to cooperate with other solution providers and its commitment to the CAE market very convincing. We are looking forward to a close partnership with UGS.”

UGS launched NX Nastran in September 2003. Nastran, the world’s most widely used finite-element analysis (FEA) software, was previously available only from MSC.Software Corporation as MSC.Nastran.

The company promotes openness and standardization and works collaboratively with its clients in creating enterprise solutions enabling them to transform their process of innovation and thus begin to capture the value of PLM.

UGS, a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced Saab AB has selected UGS as its new technology partner for PLM and will standardize on Teamcenter®, the leading integrated portfolio of PLM solutions, for product collaboration within the Saab Aerosystems business unit.

UGS made the announcement in conjunction with its analyst/media briefing event being held July 14-15 in New York. The briefing is the first such event UGS has held since announcing on May 27 the closing of its sale by EDS to three private equity firms and its launch of operations as an independent software company under the UGS brand.

Saab Aerosystems expects its use of Teamcenter to help the unit achieve annual cost reductions in the “multi-million dollar” range. The unit also expects the PLM solution to strengthen its capability for increased international cooperation throughout the aerospace industry. Saab Aerosystems will implement Teamcenter to strengthen production and support systems for its Gripen aircraft in Sweden and other countries where it is sold. Gripen is the first fourth generation fighter aircraft in operational service today. In active operation in the Swedish Air Force since 1997, Gripen aircraft are also in service with the South African, Hungarian and Czech air forces.

Saab Aerosystems’ investment in Teamcenter includes 1,000 licenses of Teamcenter Aerospace and Defense to enable global program and team collaboration to manage their complex aircraft, long development cycles and stringent processes.

“The success of this PLM implementation is a critical component of Saab Aerosystems’ future business plan as well as our overall objective to cut IT costs,” says Lars Ydreskog, chief of operations at Saab Aerosystems. “We have set significant objectives to reduce lifecycle costs, to increase product data consistency and to reduce development time, which together sets the requirement for our solution provider. Based on the evaluation, Teamcenter met or exceeded our stringent requirements for functionality, openness and scalability and will play a key factor in supporting us to achieve our objectives.”

The Teamcenter solution at Saab Aerosystems will replace numerous legacy systems in order to drive down the total IT costs at Saab. Teamcenter will manage documents and product structures including options and variants, as well as integrate CATIA® designs, enterprise changes and software.

“UGS brings to Saab Aerosystems the industry’s best-of-breed software and services along with our PLM project experience and our expertise as the market leader in the aerospace and defense industries,” said Arie van Essen, vice president of UGS’ Nordic operation. “Cutting edge-technologies such as Teamcenter help facilitate international collaboration and joint ventures, and should help Saab continue to expand their leading position in the world market.”
