Компания UGS объявила победителей конкурса Solid Edge Design Contest

UGS, a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced the winners of its third quarter 2004 Solid Edge computer-aided design (CAD) contest.

An off-road vehicle from Europe; an elegant corkscrew from Asia; a camshaft and intake and exhaust valves from the Americas; and a Formula SAE design from a university in Brazil took top honors. Each of these products were designed and rendered using Solid Edge technology.

"The addition of Virtual Studio+ with Solid Edge V16 has taken rendering to a new level for us," said Bruce Boes, vice president of global marketing and business strategy, Solid Edge. "The numbers of designs shared with us by our customers around the globe have doubled since V16 has shipped, and the designs are phenomenal. We are proud to sponsor a contest that allows our users to showcase their design and rendering skills."

The Solid Edge contest highlights excellence in mechanical engineering and is open to designers working on any of more than 200,000 Solid Edge seats deployed around the world. The contest is held to promote the mechanical design excellence delivered by users of 3D solid modeling technology.

Each winner receives a CadMan® 3D motion controller from Solid Edge Voyager Program member 3Dconnexion, a Logitech company. See these and other winning images as well as more details on the contest at www.solidedge.com/successes/design.contest.htm.

Asia Pacific

Top honors in Asia Pacific went to engineering design consultancy MASCO Design Services, Ltd. from Australia. This corkscrew was modeled and rendered in Solid Edge by director Rick Mason to demonstrate MASCO's ability to promote customers' products even during the early stages of the design process. Americas

The Ducati Desmo valve system for use in Ducati Motorcycles is designed by Ducati, but modeled by mechanical engineer Miroslav Mitrovic of Bluming Inc. using Solid Edge and rendered in Virtual Studio+ in order to create an animated working model of the unique Desmo valve system, used for promotional use by Ducati USA at motorcycle shows throughout North America. The image shows Ducati 900SS Camshaft - Intake and exhaust valves, opening and closing rockers adjustment shims, return caps and split rings (all are parts of the unique Ducati Desmo valve system). Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA)

EMEA Design contest winner Gili Hacohen, head of R&D at TOMCAR(tm) in Isreal, designed this off road vehicle that contains more than 5,000 parts using Solid Edge. TOMCAR vehicles were originally designed to handle high performance engines while undertaking extreme applications. When using the same components with a standard engine the results are an extremely forgiving machine with a very long lifespan. For more info: www.tomcar.com.

Academic

In the Academic category, the Solid Edge team at Escola de Engenharia de São Carlos (the school of engineering), Universidade de São Paulo in Brazil took first place in the Academic division of the Q3 2004 Solid Edge Design Contest. Team leader Gerson Luiz Brand used Solid Edge in the Formula SAE design, which is an assembly of the vehicle with all subsystems. For more info: www.eesc.usp.br.
